		<description>I gave up on Kurzweil before even seeing if he got to institutions, I completely agree that structure at this level is interesting, complex, and untouched by machine intelligence.  My frustration grew from Kurzweil&#039;s belief that we can somehow meld our deterministic IT technology with our non-deterministic, godelian biological systems.  He completely overestimates the quality of our IT technology and completely underestimates biological complexity.   Hope you are well!  Summer hot out here.</description>

If Kurzweil had driven through to memetics he might have a richer argument; ie it is social institutions/thought which are now our manifest evolution and which are the best protected against extinction (see: current American healthcare system).  Weave this with Zakaria&#039;s thoughts and you have &quot;America may fail, American institutions cannot&quot;</description>
